In the case that the farmer grows poplar as short rotation forestry and provides himself to the energetic transformation, the chip value is related to his heating value, to the cost of the fossil fuel that will substitute and to the transformation cost.
The biomass transformation cost in heat energy is in relation to the plant size, to the drying and storage product cost, to the feeding cost, to the smoke cleaning system, to the dust disposal cost. etc.. The economic evaluation of the crop, in this case, should evaluate also the transformation cost.
It is pointed out that the agricultural sector should participate to the energy conversion to acquire the value of the transformed product that is usually is related to the industrial sector.
Farms cooperative to valorize their biomass product, both energy crops and lignocelluloses by products, are suggested.
