The "Sanvicetro"
This work gives a contribution to clarify the identity of "Sanvicetro" grapevines cultivated in different Tuscany area. "Sanvicetro" is one of the know synonyms of Sangiovese, but varieties different from Sangiovese, even if morphologically similar, are grown in Valdarno and Casentino, as described in this report by means of molecular, ampelographic and chemical tools.
In particular we report the results of a study performed on eight accessions named "Sanvicetro": all have been analyzed considering their ampelographic and ampelometric parameters as reported in the O.I.V. list. DNA analyses related to 10 microsatellite loci have been carried out and berry phenolic composition was compared with that of Sangiovese.
Results show that Sanvicetro is only rarely a synonym of Sangiovese, instead it is more frequently another cultivar, without a direct relationship with Sangiovese.
On the basis of the obtained results, it has been suggested to exclude Sanvicetro from the synonyms of Sangiovese, while agronomical and oenological characteristics must be evaluated with care for Sanvicetro's commercial use and diffusion. |
