Levels of Noise and Vibrations transmitted to the Driver of a medium-high power Agricultural Tractor, under operative conditions

The problem of the exposure to noise and vibration improved the rising, in recent years, of experiments aimed at assessing the risk determined by such physical factors using agricultural tractors and to evaluate the technical solution adopted to increase the level of comfort. An intense activity of research aims at investigating some components subject to technical progress, such as tyres, axles, suspended driverís seats and cabs. The Italian Legislative Decree 81/08 requires the employer to assess the risk from the exposure to noise and vibrations in order to identify and adopt suitable preventions and protection measures, with reference to the standards of good agricultural practice. The present work refers of tests aimed at measuring the levels of noise and vibrations transmitted by an agricultural tractor to the driver during the execution of two tillage operations representative of the normal activity. The tests with tractor steady did not show significant noise differences between closed cab and open roof, with sound pressure values of about 79.0 dB(A). The highest sound pressure level, 79.4 dB(A), was recorded during the lifting, with closed cab. Unexpectedly, the roof opening determined a decrease to 78.8 dB(A). No significant differences occurred during the ploughing, with values of 77.0 dB(A).
