Testing of agricultural machinery at CRA-Engineering (Italy) according to the ISO/IEC 17025:2005 standard

A team has been working for fifteen years at CRA-ING (Agricultural Research Council, Italy) in order to investigate the aspects of functionality and safety of agricultural tractors, tyres and operating machines. Such a team has been named “Centro Prove Macchine Agricole” (CPMA, Testing Centre of Agricultural Machinery). Its objective is to study the performances of the machines and their safety characteristics under operative conditions with the aim of supporting the manufacturers in the development of their products through experimental tests. Moreover, CPMA conducts the tests on performance and safety aspects aimed to the ENAMA certification and participates in the ENTAM (European Network for Testing of Agricultural Machinery) activity, aiming to the standardization of the test methodologies. CPMA is qualified for the certification of: machines for soil tillage, sowing and combined machines; dry fruits harvesters; chopping machines; agricultural tyres.
CPMA developed a Quality System, operating in compliance with the UNI CEI EN ISO/IEC 17025: 2005 standard, in which all the aspects of its activity are codified in order to grant the methodological strictness typical of a scientific laboratory. CPMA Quality System is going to obtain the official crediting.
This paper provides a description of CPMA facilities and of the application of the Quality System to its activity, reporting examples of the results of field tests with soil tillage machines (a three-furrow reversible plough and a rotary harrow).
