Abstract in English: The CRA-ING experience for the storage of SRF
poplar wood chips. State of the art and new achievements. In
the last years, the increase of energy production from renewable
sources has become a necessity rather than possibility. Among the
alternative sources, the biomass deriving from agriculture appears
one of the most interesting. To this aim, several biorefineries for
the production of thermal and electric energy have been realized
in the world. One of the main problems encountered for their
exploitation is the storage of biomass. The seasonality of wood
chips production requires the identification of the better strategy
for the conservation of “biofuels” and for obtaining a product
having suitable physical traits, with values of the main parameters
complying the European standards. The main purpose of the storage
is to lower the moisture content for reducing microbiological
degradation, to maintain a low level of ash generated after burning
and to increase the calorific power. The storage of poplar chips is
a process influenced by different factors related to microclimate,
chips size and storage methods. The CRA-ING has set up several
experiments aimed at to identify the best conditions for the natural
storage of the poplar in open air in order to define the parameters
of efficiency, economy and functionality ensuring the supply of biofuel
to farms in a continuous manner and with the proper moisture
content. The paper deals with the issues related to the storage of
poplar wood chips and illustrates some of the most impor |
