Abstract in English: A study has been conducted in order to evaluate the best
mechanical solution for the harvesting of cardoon (Cynara
cardunculus L. ) seed. Employing a self-propelled forage harvester
(New Holland CS540), a comparison (in terms of performance
and quality of the work) was carried out between
a dedicated cardoon head designed by CRA-ING for the
harvest of separate fractions and a wheat head, used with
two settings, traditional and modified. The harvest trials were
realized on a cardoon cultivation sowed on a marginal land.
The best results were achieved using the modified head
for wheat while the outcome of the CRA-ING head was
penalized by the working width, lower than the wheat head.
Concerning the quality of work, the traditional wheat head
showed the highest values of capitula losses. Introducing
some modifications, such losses were reduced of 59,2%,
but in this case the CRA-ING head showed the lowest
losses, saving till 86% of the inflorescences.
The test has evidenced that, compared to the commercial
ones, the CRA-ING head, performing simultaneously the
cutting and windrowing of the plants, may facilitates the
harvesting and baling of the lignocellulosic fraction left on the
ground. In the common yards, the traditional heads would
require, indeed, the passage of further implements (mower
and rotary rake), with an increase of the total costs. |
