Lo sviluppo di nuovi sistemi di raccolta in grado di ottenere un prodotto con caratteristiche tali da agevolare la fase di stoccaggio e pretrattamento, riducendo le perdite di sostanza secca, costituisce un punto cruciale nella valorizzazione della coltura di canna comune.
Abstract in English:
The particle size distribution is one of the main parameter affecting the compliance of a feedstock to the requirements claimed for energy purposes. Giant reed (Arundo donax L.), one of the most promising energy crop, is currently harvested using the self-propelled forage harvesters. Often the final product presents a distribution skewed towards the finer particles that can negatively influence the qualitative traits of fuel and on the efficiency of power plants. The Consiglio per la ricerca e sperimentazione in agricoltura, in collaboration with Spapperi Ltd, has designed and developed a prototype for cutting and sectioning the crop of Arundo aimed at producing a higher proportion of chips longer than the ones obtainable from a forage harvester. A study has been conducted in order to assess the performance of the machinery and to evaluate the characteristics of the crop harvest. In order to attain a final product with different length, the contrasting system of the blades (positioned on the frame of rotor), were left internally or moved outside for reducing the additional fragmentation of the stems. Such solution did not revealed decisive for differentiating the final product but the results have shown that the lengthening of the particle size may be possible. However, further improvements are needed and these will concern the increase of the effective field capacity and the obtaining of a product with a greater proportion of longer fractions.
