In questo contributo si riportano i risultati di una valutazione d’impatto ambientale condotta utilizzando la metodologia del Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) delle fasi agricole di tre colture energetiche: colza (Brassica napus, L.), canna comune (Arundo donax, L.) e pioppo (Populus spp.). Lo scopo è stato quello di determinare quale delle tre genera il minor carico ambientale in sostituzione della barbabietola da zucchero.
Abstract in English:
The rapeseed (Brassica napus L.), giant reed (Arundo donax L.) and poplar (Populus ssp.) open-field production systems have been analysed applying life cycle assessment (LCA) research method, and their environmental performance have been compared. The environmental analysis included six farming units, two per crop, which were extracted from a sample of 251 rapeseed farm units (2751 hectares), 7 giant reed farm units (7,8 hectares), and 91 poplar farm units (440 hectares) using a statistical multivariate analysis. The life cycle impact assessment (LCIA) shows that the use of fertilizers is the highest impact for all the energy crops studied. The results of the analysis support that the poplar open-field production systems has the best performance from an environmental perspective for producing biomass for energy in Italy.
