Abstract in English:
The morphological characteristics of poplar fragments obtained with mechanical harvesting, are important in order to avoid fermentation and dry matter losses during storage in open air. In addition, the biomasses must have such characteristics as to be able to entail the least cost of transport from the place of production to the point of delivery to the power plants. The CRA-ISMA designed, constructed and tested a prototype of operating machine for the cutting, chopping and loading onto a farm wagon of poplar grown as a SRC crop. The harvesting- sizing machine used in the trials derives from a commercial harvesting-chopping machine of which it uses the same harvesting head, connected directly to the tractor p.t.o.. The harvesting tests carried out under normal operational conditions show that it is possible to evaluate positively the feasibility of conserving the woody fragments, since their characteristics appear to be sufficiently suitable to favour natural ventilation within the storage mounds
